Sold the TFO Axiom 9 line to fund a shorter, heavier stick so I can toss bigger bugs from the yak. I had my heart set on a TFO TiCrX 7'6", but after casting kreekn's Redington, and reading all the positive reviews on the interwebnet, I opted for the Redington.

I do believe the fit/finish is superior to the TFO TiCrX. For sure, a higher quality reel seat. It doesn't have a hook keeper on the rod, but it does have two cut into the ring securing the cork above the reel seat. I like.

I'm gonna line it with SA textured Titan taper in a nine. I may have stepped on my pee pee by doing this, in that the rod will fold at a distance, but I figure it'll load up nicely in close, which it what I have in mind. We'll see...

I also scored a deal on a Cabela's, Lamson-made WLx reel. I've just got to wait till May to get an extra spool for a sink-tip line.

Pics tomorrow.

How does the reel look?

I'm looking at that one for the 10wt I'm buying. Saw where Orvis has the LA Battenkill on sale for $179.00.

Well...

I tried to post the link to the reel. Just go to Cabela's site and look for the WLx.

You can tell Lamson made it. Top notch machining. Flat gray anodized, with and orange drag knob/assembly. Looks good.

It's on sale, but they show it has to be backordered. I guess I got one of the last ones.

I like it a lot better than the Orvis, which I've looked at/handled at least 10 times.

I think I did good...

I probably could have gotten by with an 8 wt line, as I was right about the rod folding when you really try to get on it. But, what I found out is...there's no need to.

I'm really impressed with the SA Titan taper. The head is short & huge. The line is textured...not as rough as the sharkskin Get just the head out of the tip; pick-up and shoot. I didn't step it off, but I'm guessing 45 to 50 feet with zero effort.

The extra weight really slows the rod down. I loads up nicely for those 15 ft casts, which is what I intended.

Thanks to Kreekn for the recommendation. I see this rod getting a lot of use...

I think it's gonna be a great reel. The price is definitely right.

I have the same stick in a 6 wt and it's easily my favorite rod. Has a Lamson Konic on it. It's a fun toy. And cheap as far as fly rods go.

Well...

Got an extra spool for my reel today, and guess what? It looks like they changed the design of the reel, and the new design spools will not work on my reel. The drag will not engage. Confused

E-mail sent to Cabela's customer service expressing my displeasure. We'll see if/how they make it right...
