Downtown smallies!!

Postby archer8030 » Mon May 14, 2007 6:58 pm

Me and a buddy went wading in the Broad river in downtown Columbia last Friday...right near the Gervais street bridge.

We had a blast! We caught roughly 15 or so smallies. Most were in the 1lb to 1 1/2lbs range, but the kicker was a 4lb 12oz pig! She is my biggest SC smallie to date. I caught one from just about the same spot last year that went just a hair over 3lbs.

Here's just a few pics...enjoy!

I like that title too - downtown smallies. Nice, very nice. I hope to tangle with some downtown smallies and then drive 5 minutes from the takeout and grab some sushi!! lol. Good report. What did the big one fall for? Topwater?

Yeah, she fell victim to a teeny Rebel Pop-R. I saw a "big fish" continuously blowing up in this one section of faster moving water. It didn't appear to be big enough to be a striper but it was clearly bigger than anything we had caught up to that point.

She swirled at the bait on the first pass and she clobbered it on the second cast. I knew she was a better fish win she hit it, but I had no idea just how big she was until she jumped. I uncontrollably soiled my britches...repeateldy everytime she jumped. :P

They openend a new sushi joint right there in the vista. I think it's called "Saki to me" or something like that. It's about five minutes straight up Gervais...where the old Rhino room used to be if I understand correctly.

LOL, that is a good story too. I love how smallies take to the air like acrobats!

PS. Archer, you have only been on this site for a day or two and you are already on the front of americanriverfishing.com! Now that is impressive!
